Quick Thoughts On Food Overseas:
- Tread lightly with experiments. I know traveling is supposed to be about trying new things but new things could have an adverse impact on your intestines.
- Locals don’t get sick because their stomachs and system are already used to the local bacteria.
- Read the food section of my travel tips page to better prepare.
- Read my food poison post to better prepare as well.

Let’s see if it looks like the picture…
Seeing if the food looks like the picture in the menu is always a fun game. There are so many times, especially in Italy, where you see something amazing in a menu picture and it arrives at the table dramatically different. Many times there’s a difference because the menu is not pictures of the restaurant’s real food. Other times it’s because of the supply chain. In tourist areas, it might be because they just wanted to get you in the door. I took a chance with the Saccottini Italia from this menu at a restaurant in Sorrento, Italy to see what happened.
I am too easy and sold on anything with ham and bacon. Double pork…are you kidding me? Can I get it deep fried too? The Saccottini Italia I love calories which is why there is a Global Calories category on this website. This was one of my first authentic meals other than pizza when I moved to Naples, Italy. I wanted it to be good.
What do you think? Can you see the similarity?

This is what it looked like when the Saccottini Italia showed up. There’s a yellow tone kind of thing going on with these pictures because I was under a yellow tent and the sauce is yellowish. Having a lame cell phone camera at the time may also be a contributing factor. The Saccottini Italia actually looks a lot like the picture. I was pretty surprised. There’s more sauce on the plate than in the picture but it looks pretty similar.
I have to make it mine before I dig in

While I appreciate a good chef’s vision…I had to make the Saccottini Italia mine with with some black pepper and Parmesan cheese. It’s looking pretty good in that picture. It’s all coming back to me…I can almost taste it again…yummy.
The Final Outcome…

The Saccottini Italia didn’t stand a chance. This dish is on point. It’s very filling as most pasta eaters are already aware. I really appreciated how the dish resembled the picture and ended up tasting really good. I was happy with my choice. Unfortunately, I don’t have the name of the restaurant but if you’re in Sorrento, Italy, I’m sure you’ll find equal or better. Italian food is amazing and most of the restaurants make it very well or they don’t last long. It’s their family name on the line in most cases if the food sucks.
