The Bahrain World Trade Center
The Bahrain World Trade Center in Manama, Bahrain dominates the skyline. The architecture of this unique building catches the eye and draws you in. You question if it’s a real building? Do people really occupy it? Is it designed after Batman? What’s the deal with the windmills??? I was able to capture these pictures of the The Bahrain World Trade Center on a clear day with a near full moon at sunset.
I had a great view of the Bahrain World Trade Center from my Hotel room at the Marriott Residence Inn Manama Juffair, Bahrain. I made it my goal to get some good pictures of the facility before I left. The moon was getting bigger, brighter, and more full in the days prior to taking these pictures. A clear day in Bahrain is hard to come by so I didn’t really expect ideal conditions to present themselves. It turns out I was wrong.
World Trade Center Photo Logistics
I wasn’t sure how to get to and from Bahrain World Trade Center and still be able to take pictures. I didn’t have a car. Additionally, I wasn’t certain I wanted to stop along side a busy road in Bahrain and potentially deal with local authorities. I turned to Uber. My quick thought was to ask the driver to go a little bit out of the way and offer him a sizable tip for his efforts if he made it happen.
Luckily the Uber driver shows and speaks great English. The Uber app told him to take me to the World Trade Center. On the ride over, I told him my goal and he made it happen. His knowledge of Manama, Bahrain got me in the perfect position to get the moon to the right, center, and left of the towers. That was awesome.
How We Did It
The driver knew that taking Rd 4607 would give me the perfect views so we headed to that location. It was near sunset so the traffic was dying down and there weren’t many people in the vicinity because it’s a mostly commercial area. There is also a lot of new construction happening in the area. There were however, some people hanging out by the water, watching the sunset, and doing other things.
The driver drove very slowly and stopped roughly at the three spots indicated on the map below. He wasn’t too happy when I jumped out of the backseat and started taking shots from the road that said “no parking” while cars (although it was only a few) were driving by.
I took my shots and headed back to my hotel. I gave the drive 10 Bahrain Dinar (BD) which is about $25 USD for his efforts.
Side Notes:
- Bahrain addresses might not be what you expect or see in the rest of the world. The address includes the building number and the street number. Here’s the address to the Marriott as an example: Building 894, Rd No 2408, Manama, Bahrain. With more exposure, it might be easier to wrap my mind around it.
