Global Calories: Pancake Breakfast in Bagan, Myanmar

pancake, strawberry jelly, and heavy butter serverd at myanmar hotel in bagan, myanmar

I ate this pancake breakfast in Bagan, Myanmar after the Hot Air Balloons Ride through the ancient temples. After the hot air balloon ride, I went back to the hotel to get ready for local sightseeing in Bagan. The hotel included breakfast which is usually eaten after the balloon ride which starts really early in the morning. I was definitely ready to eat by the time I made it to the hotel.

Safe & Easy On The Stomach

Hotels in remote Southeast Asia locations that live off tourists do a great job of catering to tourists. The hotels are good at making tourists feel welcome. It’s always interesting to see how locals in rural areas interpret and produce a western meal like this pancake breakfast made in Myanmar.

It was actually really good and really safe to eat. It’s a normal pancake made with normal ingredients like flour and water and seemed to be low risk choice for someone avoiding local bacteria.

Ready To Eat After The Balloon Tour

This pancake was very welcome after arriving to the hotel late the evening before due to a long day of travel and then waking up early for the hot air balloon ride. Eggs and a piece of toast came with it. I only took a picture of the pancake and not the other food because it was picture worthy and authentic. I liked the rough finish and all these air pockets in it. The strawberry jelly, with only a fraction of that lethal butter in the picture, topped with the honey, made it a very delicious little snack. It served it’s purpose by filling up my stomach and getting me ready to go see the world. The syrup on the left is actually honey.

Juice & Water Available As Well

Juice and other drinks options were available. I like to go with water because I am always a water guy. I tend to stay with water because sometimes sweet beverages have a tendency to attract bugs or fruit flies.

Peaceful Environment Makes Everything Perfect

Eating breakfast on top of the second story of the hotel in a chilly open-air environment was kind of tranquil. There were some green trees around and birds chirping. I have good memories of this pancake because it tasted great and I ate it right after completing an amazing bucket list adventure.
